What is an NFT?
An NFT, or non-fungible token, is a unique digital unit that represents the ownership or authenticity of a digital or physical asset. Each NFT has a unique identifier (Token ID) that distinguishes it from the others, making it particularly valuable to collectors or fans of digital art.
NFTs can represent a wide variety of assets, such as digital works of art, videos, music, video game objects and much more. They allow creators to distribute their digital creations securely, while providing proof of ownership and authenticity through Blockchain technology.
What is a wallet?
A wallet, also known as a digital wallet, Web 3.0 wallet or decentralized wallet, is a tool that allows users to interact with applications on the Blockchain. It allows you to carry out operations such as the purchase of cryptocurrency or NFTs.
A Wallet is made up of two essential elements. A public address and a seed phrase.
  • The public address: Like a bank account that has a number, a Wallet has a unique address (usually starting with 0x followed by 40 characters). When you connect your Wallet to a site, you give it this address. This site can then carry out transactions (transfer of cryptocurrency or NFTs, for example), which you will always have to approve and sign. The public nature of a Wallet's address contributes to transparency on the Blockchain. All transactions carried out with a wallet can be viewed and verified publicly, particularly on the website Etherscan. However, this public address is anonymous and does not reveal any confidential information such as the private key.
  • The seed phrase: This is a sort of super password, generally consisting of a string of 12 or 24 characters. It is important to keep the phrase of your wallet safe and not share it with anyone. If someone accesses your phrase, they can control and empty your wallet of all its assets. We recommended that you backup your phrase securely, for example by storing it offline on a physical medium disconnected from the Internet, such as a USB key or paper. Please note that if you lose your phrase, there is no way of recovering it. There is no recovery procedure, just like if you forget your password.
Difference with an account on a site: A Wallet and an account on a site are two different concepts with distinct functions. You create an account on a site while you connect a site to the Wallet.
  • An account on a site is generally created when you register. It is most often associated with an email and password and allows the user to access various features such as storing personal information, preferences, order histories, etc. The account on a site is centralized (Web 2), which means that the information and data are stored on the servers of the company operating the site.
  • A wallet on the other hand, is decentralised (Web 3), which means that information and assets (cryptocurrency or NFTs) are stored securely on the Blockchain, independently of the site to which it is connected. A single Wallet can therefore be connected to several different sites, each of which can read its content.
On Digital Tintin you need to connect your Wallet to carry out certain actions (mainly the purchase of NFTs). Creating an account is not compulsory and simply involves providing your email address. It is especially necessary so we can send you transactional notifications.
What are gas fees?
Gas fees, also called transaction fees, refer to the fees paid by users to make transactions on the Ethereum Blockchain. Transaction fees are paid in exchange for executing transactions and including them in the Blockchain. They represent the amount of computing power needed to perform the requested operations.
Gas fees depend on several factors, such as Ethereum network congestion, the complexity of the transaction and the desired level of priority. When the network is very active, gas fees tend to increase.
In practice
How do I create a Wallet?
There are many Wallets available for interacting with the Blockchain. If you don't know which one to use, here are the steps for creating a Metamask wallet. It's relatively simple, even for beginners:
  • Install the Metamask extension:
    • Open your browser (Metamask is compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Edge).
    • Go to the official Metamask website (https://metamask.io/) and click on the "Download" button.
    • Follow the instructions to install the Metamask extension on your browser.
  • Create a new Wallet:
    • After installing the extension, you will see the Metamask icon in your browser's toolbar. Click on the icon to open it.
    • When Metamask opens, click on "Start" to create a new Wallet.
  • Create a secure password:
    • You will be invited to create a password for your Metamask wallet. Choose a strong password and keep it safe.
    • Click on "Create" once you have chosen a password.
  • Save the seed phrase:
    • Metamask will display a seed phrase consisting of 12 or 24 words. This phrase is extremely important as it can be used to restore your wallet if you lose your login details.
    • Write these words down in the correct order and keep them in a safe and private place. Never share this sentence with anyone. If you lose this phrase, you will not be able to connect to your Wallet. There is no recovery procedure, as there is if you forget a password.
  • Confirm the seed phrase:
    • To check that you have saved your seed phrase correctly, Metamask will ask you to enter certain words in the correct order.
    • Enter the correct words in the corresponding fields.
  • Use your Metamask Wallet:
    • Once you have confirmed your seed phrase, you can start using your Metamask Wallet. Note that it has a unique public address on the Blockchain, usually starting with 0x followed by 40 characters.
How do I buy an NFT?
  • Create a Wallet: If you already have a Wallet, you can proceed to the next step. Otherwise, see the "How do I create a Wallet" section.
  • Connect your Wallet to Digital Tintin: In the window of your Wallet, sign to approve your connection. This will ensure secure transactions. If this is your first connection, the site will ask you for your email address so that it can keep in touch with you and send you confirmation of your NFT purchase.
  • Make the purchase. Choose the desired quantity and then your payment method. Two options are possible:
    • In cryptocurrency: If you decide to buy the NFT in cryptocurrency, follow the instructions to finalise the transaction. This involves confirming the transaction in your wallet and paying the requested amount in Ethereum. There are many reputable cryptocurrency exchange platforms where you can buy Ethereum such as Coinbase or Binance. Make sure you choose a reliable and secure platform.
    • By credit card: If you decide to buy the NFT by credit card, follow the instructions provided by our partner Crossmint. You will have to create an account on Crossmint with an email address. Crossmint will create a temporary Wallet address for you where your NFT will be stored. At the end of the transaction, you will have to transfer the NFT to your own Wallet address (it usually starts with 0x followed by 40 characters).
Note that in both cases (payment by cryptocurrency or credit card) you will need to add the transaction fee (Gas fee) to the price of the NFT.
  • Check your purchase: Once your purchase has been completed, you will be able to view your new NFT in several ways. Initially, you will only see a "generic" image of your NFT (a black dragon for the NFT "The Blue Lotus"). Wait 24 hours to see the real image.
    • On your Digital Tintin account: Connect your Wallet and then go to your account, in the NFT list.
    • On OpenSea: Connect your Wallet to the OpenSea website and then go to your profile.
    • On Etherscan: In the search field of the Etherscan site manually enter your Wallet address and click on the "NFT transfers" button.
On each of these platforms you will find four essential pieces of information, encoded in the Blockchain and therefore unforgeable, identifying your NFT certificate:
    • The Blockchain: It is Ethereum Mainnet for your NFT "The Blue Lotus".
    • The Contract Address which identifies the collection/series.
    • The Token ID which identifies the NFT in the collection/series. It is different from your NFT number.
    • The Owner which identifies the Wallet Address to which the NFT belongs. Logically it's your Wallet Address.
How do I activate my NFT certificate "The Blue Lotus"?

    • The Blockchain name: This is Polygon Mainnet for your NFT certificate "The Blue Lotus".
    • The Contract Address which identifies the collection/series.
    • The Token ID which identifies the NFT in the collection/series. It is different from your NFT number.
    • The Owner which identifies the Wallet Address to which the NFT belongs. Logically it's your Wallet Address.
How do I transfer or sell my NFT?
To transfer or sell your NFT, you can follow these general steps:
  • Identify the platform with wich you want to transfer or sell your NFT. Among the most popular platforms are OpenSea or Rarible.
  • Connect your Wallet to the chosen platform. This will allow you to access your NFTs and manage them from the platform. Make sure you have enough cryptocurrency funds to pay the transaction fee (*) (gas fee) necessary for the transfer of the NFT.
  • Search for your NFT on the platform. Generally, it is in your profile. Once you have located it, select it to display its details and management options.
  • Depending on the platform, you will usually have the option to transfer it or put it on sale. If you simply want to transfer it to another address, you will have to provide the public address of the recipient's Wallet. If you want to put it up for sale, you will have to define a price and possibly other parameters such as the duration of the auction.
It is important to note that some platforms may have specific steps and processes for the transfer or sale of NFT. Be sure to consult the instructions and guides provided by the specific platform you use to ensure that you follow best practices and requirements.
(*) Gas fees are minimal. Just the equivalent of a few centimes of euros or dollars. If you want to transfer "The Blue Lotus Certificate", which is on the Polygon blockchain, you need MATIC cryptocurrency. If you want to transfer "The Blue Lotus NFT", wich is on the Ethereum blockchain, you need ETH cryptocurrency to pay the gas fee. There are many reputable platforms where you can buy cryptocurrency such as Coinbase or Binance. Make sure you choose a reliable and secure platform.
